Aït Bouguemez Valley

The 'Happy Valley' of the central High Atlas: earthen villages, fields and hikes

AI-generated illustration

Nicknamed the 'Happy Valley', the Aït Bouguemez valley lies above 1,800 metres in the heart of the central High Atlas, below the M'Goun massif, which rises above 4,000 metres. Its earthen villages, Tabant, Agouti, Timit and Imelghas, overlook barley fields and irrigated orchards. People come to walk from village to village, climb to the Sidi Moussa communal granary at sunset or look for the dinosaur footprints of Ibaqalliwn. The valley has only had an all-year road since the early 2000s, so it has kept a peaceful pace, with family-run gîtes.

The weekly market of the main village, where people from the whole valley meet.
