Taroudant
A "little Marrakech" with ochre ramparts, in the heart of the Souss valley
AI-generated illustration
Briefly the Saadian capital in the 16th century, Taroudant is encircled by about six kilometres of rammed-earth ramparts punctuated by towers and gates. It is often called "little Marrakech", minus the bustle: its souks, tannery and squares can be explored at leisure, without being approached at every step. Surrounded by orange and argan trees, it lies about an hour and a half from Agadir and is a good stop towards the Anti-Atlas or the Tiout oasis.
